New Player Guide

Everything you need before your first connection.

Project Western is built around continuous, serious roleplay. Follow this guide in order so your Discord, CAD, character, and game setup are ready before you enter the server.

BEFORE YOU CONNECT

Your CAD must be completely set up first.

Do not connect with a blank, placeholder, or unfinished character record. Your character information needs to exist in the CAD before that character enters the server.

Discord & Verification

Join the community and connect Discord.

Discord is the community hub and the identity provider used by the application portal. You do not need a separate Project Western website account.

  • Join the Project Western Discord and complete any required server verification.
  • Use the same Discord account when connecting to the website application portal.
  • Keep access to that account because application status and role eligibility are tied to it.

Rules & Immersion

Understand the type of roleplay you are joining.

Project Western expects players to stay in character during active roleplay and treat actions as part of a continuing character story rather than isolated game rounds.

  • Read the full Rules page before joining a scene.
  • Keep OOC conversation out of active roleplay unless staff intervention genuinely requires it.
  • Do not livestream while connected or participating in Project Western roleplay.
  • Know the character-life system, combat logging rules, and scene-continuity expectations.

Character Creation

Create a person, not only a name and loadout.

Your character should have enough identity that you can make believable decisions even when nothing dramatic is happening.

IdentityName, age, appearance, occupation, and a reasonable background.
PersonalityTemperament, habits, goals, relationships, and boundaries.
ContinuityRemember major injuries, arrests, conflicts, friendships, and previous scenes.
SeparationYour new character does not automatically know what your other characters know.

CAD Setup

Finish the CAD before opening FiveM.

This is a connection requirement. Every character must have a complete CAD profile before that character enters the server.

Required identity fields completedDo not use placeholder names, missing dates, or intentionally inaccurate profile information.

No CAD, no connection.If the profile is incomplete, finish it before joining the server.

FiveM Preparation

Make sure the technical side is ready.

Do the basic setup before joining so technical problems do not interrupt an active scene.

  • Make sure FiveM launches normally and your microphone works before connecting.
  • Use a stable push-to-talk setup and avoid open-mic background noise.
  • Install any server-required plugins or resources announced in Discord.
  • Do not use external information, streams, maps, or communications to gain knowledge your character would not have.

First Session

Once you spawn, you are your character.

Start small. Learn the city, meet people, find work, respond to what happens around you, and allow your character's story to build naturally.

DO
  • Speak and react in character.
  • Give others time to respond.
  • Roleplay consequences instead of racing past them.
  • Use the law page when a legal reference is useful.
AVOID
  • Talking about Discord, staff, scripts, or game mechanics in-character.
  • Forcing every encounter into crime, pursuit, or gunfire.
  • Leaving a scene to protect inventory or avoid consequences.
  • Using information your character never learned.

Injury & Character Lives

Your character has two lives.

A major character death is part of that character's history. The first death is survived through believable medical roleplay. The second death is permanent.

LIFE 1First character death

Your character survives through an appropriate hospital, surgery, EMS, or recovery explanation. The incident remains part of their history.

LIFE 2Second character death

The character is permanently deceased. Mark them Deceased in the MDT, or Missing only when the roleplay genuinely supports an unresolved disappearance, then create a new character.

Changing a character's name, department, appearance, or job does not reset their lives. A replacement character also cannot inherit the deceased character's private knowledge or grudges.
